Rocket Boys

As you know J has been all fired up about rockets since cubscouts last week. We were finally able to pick up a model rocket kit yesterday. The Estes Shuttle Express Kit. J and Dad put it together last night. J was able to do most of it by himself. He had an absolute ball flying the rocket today.

We had a 3-pack of B6-4 engines. We had 3 successful flights. Below is a video of flight number 3.

We watched the Phoenix landing on Mars on NASA TV online tonight.

Testors Quickbuilder Model P51 Mustang

Last week at J's cubscout meeting they launched a model rocket to demonstrate 'action-reaction' Newton's 3rd law etc... J got jazzed up BIGTIME about wanting to build a model rocket. This is fine with Dad because he loves model rockets and we have taken J to many a high powered model rocket launch. Unfortunately we went to several stores today to pick up a kit...but all the best local hobby stores are closed on sunday. The selection at k-mart/walmart/michael's was non existant. So we settled on this level 1 P51 Mustang model kit from testors. J had it assembled in 3 min flat. He was sooooooooooooo excited about it. The only problem was some of the pieces were hard to snap together and Dad had to help a very little bit.

Pirate J

This weekend J and Dad went to a regional cub scouts camping trip. The theme was pirates. The camera stayed at home, but everyone got a pirate picture made. There were lots and lots of fun activities and games. J earned his archery belt loop and his BB gun belt loop. It was too cold for swimming, but there was so much else to do. He made a pirate treasure chest, a picture frame, played a massive game of dodgeball, had fun at the campfire, the raingutter regatta, pirate crafts and games, a treasure hunt/hike. A really really fun time all around!
